NCSomms.com was created by me, Ryan Watts, your humble servant while you are on this website. You could call me a complete and total wine nerd but honestly I am really just a complete and total nerd in general. I kind of geek out on everything that is cool and tend to oversubscribe to the philosophy “Go Big or Go Home!”. Since getting the wine bug a few years ago I have achieved Level 3 in the WSET curriculum and a Level 1 with the Court of Master Sommeliers. I plan to continue my wine education in both of these organizations as well as probably explore some of the other schools that are out there. I am also an entrepreneur and have started and/or own several businesses in North Carolina including Van in Black, HD Carolina, a sound/lighting production company, and an IT consulting/hosting company. I also have a few new businesses in the barrel ageing right now, soon to be released (maybe a 2023 vintage). Stay tuned on this…

Why?

Coming from an IT background (30+ years), I decided to start this website as a way for the Sommeliers of North Carolina to promote themselves and to hopefully build connection and community amongst people with a passion for wine. I honestly have no idea where this website will go as it really depends on the folks who sign up and use it. I am open to any and all suggestions on how to make this website serve the Sommelier community, so if you have any ideas please use the contact form to let me know. For now, my hope is that this becomes a website that can offer simple promotion and awareness to the numerous Sommeliers working and living in the state supporting the growing wine industry.

To Infinity and Beyond!

As stated above, let’s see where this website ultimately ends up. If you are a Sommelier working, living, or supporting the North Carolina wine industry, let us know how we can help serve you and we will try to make it happen. Using the words of the great state of North Carolina’s motto, “Esse Quam Videri”, “to be rather than to seem”.

Cheers!
